The model was from 1997 until the end of production in 2000 only produced by Karmann in Rheine subsidiary Audi's. The first generation of cabrios, was produced in six petrol and a diesel version. The models distributed as follows: 1.8 number of four 92 kW (125 HP): 4058 pieces 2.0 series of four of 85 kW (115 HP): 6491 pieces 2.3 number of five-cylinder with 98 kW (133 HP): 8476 pieces 2.6 V-six cylinder with 110 kW (150 HP): 8122 pieces 2.8 V-six cylinder with 128 kW (174 HP): 3018 pieces 1.9 TDI series of four (diesel) with 66 kW (90 HP)
